A number of taxi drivers who had raised serious concern with the Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum just over a week ago in Nausori are now satisfied as action has been taken by the CEO of Nausori Town Council after a discussion with the Prime Minister.
These taxi drivers had highlighted that they were not getting enough jobs after the closure of the old Nausori Market and the closing of a supermarket which was next to their stand.
The taxi operators had stated that a new taxi base has been established in front of Pak and Save Supermarket which is just a few metres away from their taxi base and this has resulted in them losing out on their runs.
Nausori Town Council’s CEO Akhtar Ali says they have now merged the two taxi bases which means all taxi drivers will get equal amount of jobs.
He adds that they have also proposed for the Gulam Nabi Street to be made a one way street to ease the traffic congestion.
Ali has also confirmed that the Fiji Roads Authority is keen on the idea.
