China’s Ambassador to Fiji Qian Bo

China’s Ambassador to Fiji Qian Bo says that Nauru should reflect on its behavior towards the Chinese delegation members in the recent Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Session with Forum Dialogue partners and they should make an apology to all Pacific Islands Forum countries and dialogue partners including China.

During a press conference, Bo who was also part of China’s delegation to the Pacific Islands Forum says that Nauruan President, Baron Waqa stubbornly impeded the Chinese representative from delivering remarks when the floor was open for remarks saying that there was insufficient time and that the Chinese representative was a low ranking official.

Bo also highlighted that Nauru before the Pacific Islands Forum  revoked some of the Chinese delegations visas with the excuse that Nauru has no diplomatic relation with China.

He says that China is a dialogue partner for the Pacific Islands Forum and every year there is a session between leaders and dialogue partners and this year they were again invited.

He adds that according to international practices and international organisation conference even if two countries have no diplomatic relationship this should not be an obstacle for any party to participate in international conferences.

Bo says that Nauru had also refused to issue visas to two delegates with Diplomatic passports from the Chinese Embassy in Fiji.

He says that the Chinese government has been participating in the forum for 30 years and will continue to strengthen friendly exchanges with Pacific Island countries on the basis of the one China principle.
