With a number of sporting events taking place next year, the Fiji National Sports Commission is hoping that the government will allocate more funds to various sporting bodies who have requested for funding.
Major sporting events which are scheduled for next year include the Rugby World Cup, World Netball Championships, the Under 20 Soccer World Cup, the Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea and the Fijiana going for the qualifying round for the Rio Olympic Games.
Sports Commission Chairman Peter Mazey said all these events are one off cases and they are aware of the funds needed by various bodies to prepare our national side for international tournaments.
Mazey confirms that they have received many applications from different sporting bodies around the country but they have set up a certain criteria that must be met to receive the grant.
The National Sports Commission was allocated $4.5 million this year.
