The National Fire Authority will have a CEO soon.
This was highlighted in parliament today by the Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Environment Parveen Bala.
Bala says the NFA has had an acting CEO and board in place and the board will advertise for the position.
He says there are 6 community volunteer based fire stations in Fiji and 96 volunteer firefighters.
Bala says 42 out of 92 have been absorbed as permanent workers and the remaining 54 will be absorbed gradually based on the minimum qualification requirement.
SODELPA MP Jiosefa Dulakiverata asked if the qualification for being a permanent firefighter was to be a rugby player as there have been volunteers in NFA for almost 10 years but the rugby players got absorbed in the workforce ahead of all the others.
Bala replied that he was not aware of any such thing happening in NFA and asked the member of opposition to provide evidence so he could look into the matter.
