By the 31st of March 2018, the National Employment Centre has a total of 8,697 registered unemployed clients.
This was highlighted by the Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, Jone Usamate while responding to Opposition MP, Prem Singh who asked the Minister for the total number of unemployed people registered with the National Employment Centre.
Usamate also highlighted that previously the National Employment Centre had up to 57,000 registered unemployed clients adding that the Ministry of Employment has gone through an exercise of cleaning the Centre’s database.
He says that there was the problem of identifying the clients who have found permanent employment and these are people who have registered as unemployed and when they became employed they did not inform the centre.
The Employment Minister says that the cleaning of the database was done over a number of months, where clients were called or brought in to update their details and to see if whether they were still unemployed or had found employment.
Opposition MP, Mikaele Leawere then asked Usamate on the issue of Directorship and if the Ministry of Employment is intending to fill the position of Director National Employment Centre.
In his response Usamate says the Ministry of Employment has tried to fill the position of Director National Employment Centre, however, they are not satisfied with the candidates they have so far.
Jone Usamate.
