The first National Child Helpline Fiji toll free number 1325 was officially launched today giving a voice to children and young people who are in need of support, care and protection.
During the launch, Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Rosy Sofia Akbar said that the Child Helpline will provide an access point for all children in Fiji to seek counseling, advice, referrals to services and to report child abuse.
Akbar said that the helpline will be confidential and the callers will be able to speak to trained professional counselors.
Akbar also mentioned that it will also assist to create awareness on child abuse, educate the children of Fiji about their rights and provide a confidential avenue for them to seek advice.
She added that concerned adults who may want to report abuse or seek general advice on child welfare may also use the Child Helpline and they are also progressing on initiatives to include children with disabilities.
This is in partnership with Medical Services Pacific and the three major communication companies, Vodafone Fiji Limited, Digicel and Telecom Fiji, are involved in supplying the line.
