The defence counsel claims that Ilaitia Nalawa who is charged with raping a 9-year-old girl in Nakasi in July last year, admitted that he committed the offence after he was allegedly assaulted and threatened by the CID officers.
Nalawa’s lawyer, Panapasa Tawake raised the issue while cross examining CID officer, Corporal Sikeli Rokodreu.
Corporal Rokodreu denied the claims and stresses that they did not assault Nalawa at any time.
The defence counsel also claims that most of Nalawa’s answers in the interview were fabricated.
Corporal Rokodreu told the court that this is not true.
Meanwhile, CID officer Corporal Raj Prasad who witnessed Nalawa’s interview at Nausori CID office told the court that Nalawa was not assaulted or threatened.
The trial continues before High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo.
