44-year-old Sudesh Mani Naidu has denied that he used his shoes to hit a 74-year-old woman at Johnson Road in Lautoka in 2013.
It is alleged that Naidu robbed Vidiya Wati of $2,200 worth of assorted jewellery and then allegedly murdered her on 13th January, 2013.
During the cross examination DPP lawyer Yogesh Prasad showed Naidu the pair of shoes and asked him if he used the same shoes to hit Wati and whether he was wearing them when he ran to the beach.
Naidu told the court that he did not hit Wati.
Naidu again told the court that he was beaten by the police officers with a baton while he was in custody.
He said the officers stepped on his ankle.
When asked whether the officers wore police boots, Naidu said they were wearing sandals.
When Justice Salesi Temo asked him whether he filed a complaint about police behaviour, Naidu said he told the judge when he appeared in the High Court for the first time in February 2013.
Prasad told the court that the medical examination shows no injuries on his body.
The defense and prosecution are making their closing submissions this hour.
