Nadi Town closed off from yesterday

Nadi Town is officially closed for business today as flood waters within the town area remain at a high level.

The Nadi Back Road, Nadi Town Temple End and Nadi Bridge from Namotomoto village are closed to all traffic.

The Nadi River has already burst its banks.

Flood waters increased at 4.15am today after high tide.

Police officers are currently on the ground at all points of entry, monitoring the water level.

Police are advising people not to attempt to travel through Nadi town today.

Some people who were traveling in their fibreglass boats have already been told by police officers on the ground to return to their homes.

There are 19 evacuation centers open in Nadi.

Some of the evacuation centers are Saint Andrews School, Vuniyasi District School, Nadi Muslim School, Dratabu Village Hall and Mount St Mary's Primary School.

People are being urged to restrict movement in flooded areas.

About 600 people are staying at the evacuation centres in Nadi since last night.
