Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has revealed that a New Zealand company has put in a tender to rebuild homes and schools using the method of modular units in Fiji after Tropical Cyclone Winston.
Modular units are sectional prefabricated buildings, or houses, that consist of multiple sections. Modular is a method of construction differing from other methods of building. The module sections are constructed at an offsite facility, then delivered to the intended site of use.
Complete construction of the prefabricated sections is completed on site.
While speaking at a NZ Fiji Business Council event in Auckland, Bainimarama said that he understands that the NZ company did a lot to house the victims of the Christchurch earthquake.
Bainimarama again called on NZ businesses to invest in Fiji and to consider expanding their operations to ride this wave of prosperity in Fiji.
He says they are also redoubling efforts to talk to companies in NZ who can promote the Fijian made brand.
Meanwhile the Prime Minister has also called on the businesses to follow the proper processes that have been set up to make the investment process more orderly and transparent.
Bainimarama revealed that he and his ministers often have potential international investors coming to them asking for special favours but he stresses that the government does not believe in short cuts and they do not tolerate doing business on the principle of “who you know” or the principle of the nod and a wink.
