The New Zealand government has announced a $15 million financial support towards the Recognised Seasonal Employment Work Scheme with Fiji and other Pacific states for the next 5 years.
Speaking at the Recognised Seasonal Employer Work Scheme’s 10th Year Anniversary celebrations, Minister for Employment Jone Usamate highlighted issues pertaining to fair treatment of its workers and other common issues.
Usamate says Pacific States are committed in selecting the right workers and at the same time have introduced drastic measures, such as the suspension of villages for four years for inappropriate behaviour under the scheme.
251 Fijians were sent to Australia and New Zealand under the seasonal work scheme last year.
