New Zealand’s Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters

New Zealand’s Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters was kicked out of parliament after complaining that politicians were "not playing tiddlywinks".

Peters tried to ask a supplementary question on the subject of teachers' pay parity in an attempt to draw attention to a breakthrough in negotiations with teachers.

Speaker Trevor Mallard had just ruled this topic out of order.

Radio NZ reports Mallard ordered Peters to stand, withdraw and apologise saying he was not showing "the sort of leadership that one expects from the most experienced member of the House".

Peters did so but then raised this point of order: "To quote Tana Umaga, we're not playing tiddlywinks here."

All of Peters' New Zealand First caucus left the House with him.
