NFP Leader Professor Biman Prasad

As teachers celebrate World Teachers Day today, the National Federation Party says a NFP government will revoke all term contracts and ensure all the teachers as well as other civil servants have a permanent tenure of employment.

NFP Leader Professor Biman Prasad says they will also increase the retirement age from 55 to 60 years as he says that there is an absolute lack of experience in our teaching fraternity and the civil service at large.

Professor Prasad says experience in teaching is vital and conducive to progressive learning and strengthening the profession.

He also says that they will review the working conditions of all teachers to ensure that their salaries are commensurate with work experience, roles and responsibilities.

Prasad says they will do this through consultations with teacher unions, school managements and all other stakeholders.

He also says that the NFP salutes the tremendous work teachers have done over the many decades to help shape the lives of our students.

The NFP Leader says teachers are a beacon of hope and symbols of knowledge and strength in our society.

He believes that the contractual employment being forced upon the teachers as well as other civil servants is totally unjustified.

Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary for Education Iowane Tiko is the chief guest at the World Teachers Day celebrations at FTU hall in Suva this hour.
