The Leader of the National Federation Party Professor Biman Prasad was suspended from Parliament for 10 minutes earlier today as he had opposed a ruling of the Speaker of Parliament.
Speaker, Dr Jiko Luveni had made a ruling that whatever Prasad had raised as a point of order was not a point of order.
Prasad then insisted that it is a point of order.
The Speaker then suspended him from Parliament for 10 minutes.
The issue came about when there was an exchange of comments between Acting Prime Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and NFP parliamentarian, Parmod Chand about airfares to Labasa.
This was a supplementary question to the Question of MP Howard Politini with regards to the security of the Fiji Airways fleet after Tropical Cyclone Keni.
Acting Prime Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum raised serious concerns when Biman Prasad said to the Speaker that what he had said was a point of order although she had ruled otherwise.
When approached outside the Parliament Complex, Prasad said he accepts the ruling of the Speaker of Parliament.
He says he abides by the ruling of the Speaker as a Member of Parliament.
