The National Fire Authority will soon have a presence in Nakasi as the ground breaking ceremony for the new Nakasi Fire Station took place today.
The facility which is fully funded by the government will cost $1.1 million and it is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Parveen Bala says this new Fire Station will effectively ensure NFA’s quicker response time to fires and other emergencies to the people of Nakasi, Naulu and the neighbouring communities.
He says the nearest fire station to Nakasi is the Nausori Fire Station which is about 6 kilometres away.
Bala says the National Fire Authority has a total of 18 Fire Stations located around the country and by the end of 2019, they expect to have a total of 21 Fire Stations with the inclusion of Nabouwalu, Lami and Nakasi Fire Stations.
He says two new Fire Stations are due to be commissioned over the next couple of months in Rakiraki and Nabouwalu.
