With the rapid growth of development in Fiji, the National Fire Authority is facing difficulty in its resources being stretched to provide the necessary emergency services.
This was highlighted by National Fire Authority of Fiji CEO John O’Connor while responding to our question on the plans that Fire Authority has in place to address situations such as empty fire hydrants or no fire hydrants in certain areas when responding to a fire.
O’Connor says that they are hoping to identify strategies that will allow them not to be fully reliant on the fire hydrants but to also use other water sources that will enable them to respond effectively.
He adds that government has allocated a grant to the National Fire Authority to work with the Water Authority of Fiji to expand the hydrant network to ensure that firefighters have access to fire hydrants wherever a fire may happen.
