The National Fire Authority has completed its initial investigation in relation to the fire at Velovelo, Lautoka where a 37-year-old man lost his life on Monday night.
NFA investigators say that the fire may have been set deliberately by the victim or it may have started accidently.
They say their initial investigation shows that Kamlesh Reddy was drunk on the night of the incident and he must have slept with a lit cigarette.
However, NFA said that they are liaising with the Police Forensics team before they confirm what was the real cause of the fire.
It is alleged that the fire started from the victim’s room.
Police say Reddy was sleeping at home with his 38‑year‑old brother and 65‑year‑old father when the incident happened at 10.30pm.
Reddy’s brother and father ran out of the house and tried to save Reddy but they were unsuccessful.
