National Fire Authority CEO Manasa Lesuma has confirmed that after their initial assessment, the MHCC building is safe following the fire that broke out in the building’s carpark last night.
However, Lesuma has also highlighted that their fire officers will continue their investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
Lesuma says that the NFA is working with the building owners and the contractors to conduct a full investigation on the cause of the fire.
He says that the fumes from the overheated air conditioning unit went through the system vents that created the smoke created during the course of the incident, triggering off the Fire Alarm at the Suva Fire Station Control Room.
There was damage to the air conditioning unit in the carpak however there were no injuries.
When contacted by Fijivillage for comments, Carpenters Properties Limited Director Daniel Whippy was still in a meeting.
