Speaker of the House, Dr. Jiko Luveni says her comments at Kalabu Secondary School have been taken out of context by SODELPA Youth President Pita Waqavonovono.
Waqavonovono says he disagrees with Dr. Luveni’s statement that the Government should improve the lives of the youth in the urban areas instead of sending them back to the village if they are unemployed.
Waqavonovono says the Speaker’s comments builds on stereotyping and demeaning the work currently done in villages to seek employment and build better societies.
Speaker of the House, Dr. Jiko Luveni says she was trying to encourage youth to become parliamentarians when she spoke to the students of Kalabu Secondary School.
Dr. Luveni says she is against the idea of sending the youth back to their village.
She adds since they are already in the urban areas the responsibility is on the Government to look at the needs of the youth who have left the rural areas.
The Speaker had also stated if the youth are sent back to the village they could end up planting marijuana.
SODELPA youth President says the comment about Marijuana is insensitive and reeks of stereotypical thinking.
Dr. Luveni says SODELPA again has taken this out of context.
