A mute man has today pleaded guilty to raping a 9-year-old boy in Navua.
The alleged incident took place on 12th March this year.
The man pleaded guilty to a count each of rape and sexual assault through an interpreter before Suva High Court Judge Justice Riyaz Hamza.
The matter has been adjourned to the 20th of this month for relevant information regarding the case to be read in court.
Meanwhile, Justice Hamza has asked the prosecution to check whether there are facilities available for the man in the prison that will safeguard his interests.
The judge said if he convicts the man, then the prosecution will have to check if there is an interpreter available in the prison all the time.
