In a bid to reduce accidents and illegal operations, municipal council officers have been given the same powers as the Land Transport Authority enforcement officers.
This means that all municipal councils around the country now have their own enforcement officers who will be on the roads within the town and city boundaries.
Land Transport Authority’s media liaison officer Iliesa Sokia said the municipal council enforcement officers will do bookings for careless and dangerous driving, improper parking, talking on a mobile phone while driving and illegal operations.
Sokia said this is being done because LTA has a lack of manpower and resources.
