The mother of 12-year-old Ravouvou Naviri, whose kidneys have failed, is calling for public asisstance.
Ravouvou, who turns 13 next month, is now undergoing dialysis treatment three times a week with a total weekly cost of $750 which is being sponsored by a few people.
A permanent solution for Ravouvou would be a kidney transplant.
His mother Ana Naviri says they are looking for a donor in the family but have not found a compatible kidney yet.
Naviri says they have asked around in the family and are requesting members of the public as well if someone is willing to donate a kidney to save her son’s life.
The family is facing financial difficulties relating to the dialysis treatment as Ana and her son travel from Navua to Suva every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Ana Naviri says it costs $40 a day for transportation and food for Ravouvou, if he asks to eat during the day.
She says Ravouvou is on a special low fat, low salt and low protein diet and she has to cook his food separately.
Naviri says her husband does not work now but does a bit of farming to try and cover the $40 cost of every trip to Suva.
She says that she has two other children in school and she finds it very difficult to get through each day.
A bank account is set up for help for Ravouvou, whose signatory is Ana Naviri.
