A 39‑year‑old woman charged with the murder of her newborn baby has been granted bail by High Court Judge, Justice Salesi Temo.
Tavenisa Raceva is charged with a count of murder.
State lawyer, Juleen Fatiaki has informed the court that they will proceed with the charge of murder after defense had informed the court that Raceva should be facing the charge of infanticide which they will argue during the trial.
The court was earlier told that Raceva who is from Navua gave birth to a baby boy at the CWM Hospital on 2nd March last year.
The court was informed that Raceva was discharged from the hospital on the 9th of March and none of her family members knew that she was pregnant.
It is alleged that Raceva suffocated her newborn baby to death on her way home and later wrapped him in a sheet and placed him in a pit toilet.
The court was also told that Raceva has six children.
The matter has been adjourned to 31st of July
