Most parts of the Western and Northern Division of the country have been experiencing water supply shortage due to insufficient amount of rainfall.
Weather Office Director Ravin Kumar says this is due to the dry spell experienced from April this year.
He says this dry season is different as other dry spells had occasional rain.
Kumar says this is expected to continue for the rest of the month.
Meanwhile Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea says they are currently carting water to the affected areas.
Vocea says they are working with the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Authority of Fiji on how they can best tackle the supply of water to the affected areas which are the red zone areas.
Vocea says they are also supplying water to all the affected areas in the maritime islands and rural areas in the North and places where there is no piped water supply.
He says they have been visiting the markets and they still see an abundance of food in the markets in Nabouwalu, Labasa and Savusavu.
The Water Authority of Fiji has confirmed that the reservoir levels are normal.
The Commissioner Western is yet to comment.
