More than 500 workers of Fiji Airports are full of smiles as their bonus payouts were announced by Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Public Enterprise Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum in Nadi today.
Sayed-Khaiyum says those staff earning between $8,200 to $19,900 will get a fixed bonus payout of $1,000.
Those earning from $20,000 to $29,000 will receive $1,500 while those staff who earn over $30,000 will get 5% of their base salary.
The overall payout is $816,004.
Sayed-Khaiyum says as a state enterprise, Fiji Airports is the highest contributor of dividends to the government.
He also called on Fiji Airports staff to maintain the standard of Nadi International Airport as every other country is trying to improve their airports.
Sayed-Khaiyum also highlighted that despite making record profits and doing major upgrades at Nadi International Airport, Fiji Airports has not borrowed money from the government.
Fiji Airports made a net profit of $80.2 million in 2017 compared to $65.3 million in 2016. The bonus paid out to staff is linked to the company’s performance.
Meanwhile Nadi International Airport has once again received independent recognition this time from Traveller Guide that critiques best and worst tourism or travel related experiences.
In a global assessment of airports Nadi received the “Best Recent Renovation” recognition.
The Traveller critique said Best Recent Renovation Nadi, Fiji.
It says Nadi used to be the worst. It was cramped, with barely any seating, it had a couple of very average takeaway food joints, a few dinky souvenir stands and a barely functioning airconditioning system.
This year, however, the airport unveiled its $FJ129 million refurbishment, a new international facility with higher ceilings, more lounges, improved food options, an additional baggage carousel, and new airconditioning.
Executive Chairman of Fiji Airports Faiz Khan said it is always welcoming to receive such independent critiquing recognition.
He says this particular recognition of best renovation in the world is a reminder of what the airport was in the past.
Khan says expect further significant changes in Nadi over the next 5 years.
