More than 40 people attended a consultation on the draft National Employment Policy that was held in Sigatoka today.
The Minister for Employment Jone Usamate highlighted that Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama will be launching the Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme tomorrow allowing graduates who have a good idea of running a business to get a grant of up to $20,000.
Usamate says that a lot of wealth is being created but the money is being concentrated into the pockets of fewer people.
He adds that what they want to do is grow the economy and make sure that the employment opportunity is there so that the wealth is passed on to the people.
Usamate says what the government is doing now is coming up with a policy to see what Fiji needs to do to have better employment opportunities for people.
Usamate also highlighted that degree holders cannot find jobs and end up being sales assistants or cashiers while they have an accounting degree.
He says that the draft National Employment Policy has about 10 policy options and general policy options which they want the people to talk about.
