278 complaints in relation to Occupational, Health and Safety standards not being followed was received from 2012 to 2016 by the Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations.
Statistics show a decrease in complaints received from 2012 to 2014 and then an increase in 2015 and 2016.
Minister Jone Usamate says the total number of cases closed every year is 80%.
He says the high number in cases settlement is attributed to compliance strategies such as the issuance of enforcement notices.
Usamate says these notices ensure a quick turnaround in minimising or eliminating the risk situations identified or reported through OHS complaints.
The highest number of enforcement notices which 882 were issued between 2014 and 2015.
The number of OHS complaints pending from 2012 to 2016 is 39.
