The Land Transport Authority has booked 1,653 drivers from January to May this year for driving without wearing their seatbelts.
The Authority has issued 1,072 traffic infringement notices for this offence.
CEO, Naisa Tuinaceva says buckling up is one of simplest preventative measures a person can take to reduce the consequences of a road accident such as serious injury and even death.
He says according to the LTA regulation, it is compulsory for a driver to wear a seatbelt while driving.
Tuinaceva says a person who is eight years and above must wear a seatbelt whether they are seated beside the driver or at the rear seat.
He says motorists must always ensure that their passengers are wearing seatbelts at all times while travelling in their vehicle.
