More than one hundred police motorcyclists will now be covered by insurance following a signing between the Fiji Police Force and Insurance Holdings Pacific.
Commissioner of Police Sitiveni Qiliho says they are grateful to the Government for giving them more than 100 motorbikes and presently the Fiji Police has the highest number of motorbikes in use than ever before.
The Commissioner after relaying his own negative experience of being a rider said he is happy that riders will be insured.
Qiliho says they have trained their riders with the help of international experts but are also facing a public that is still new to the presence of their riders and since his own accident, they had recorded two others.
He says since the addition of the motorbikes they have noted a reduction in complaints about traffic during peak hours because the traffic officers are able to maneuver their way through and get to the problem areas to redirect traffic when the need arises.
Qiliho assured the insurance company’s executives of the institution’s tough stand on the abuse of mobility resources adding drivers have been terminated for misusing police vehicles.
The Insurance cover is for a period of 3 years.
