There are more providers interested in providing dialysis in Fiji.
These are the words of kidney specialist Dr. Amrish Krishnan.
Dr. Krishnan says they will make sure that there are adequate standards in the way the providers provide dialysis, there’s good clinical governance of those places, the patients are monitored well and that there is a way to track the key performance indicators of these facilities.
Dr. Krishnan says there is a need to explore research into finding low-cost dialysis for Fiji.
The government has recently announced $1 million funding for the National Kidney Disease Research and Treatment Centre which will be operational by mid next year.
Dr. Krishnan says the facility will provide cheaper access to dialysis and it will be a treatment centre for those who are in the early stages of kidney disease.
He says there is a tsunami of kidney failure that is coming and he thinks it very important to address it now while they still have a bit of a handle on it.
