One of the attractions at the Fiji Museum Open Day at the end of this month is the furniture that once belonged to Reverend Cyril Bavin, a Methodist missionary to Fiji.
Secretary of Communications Reverend James Bhagwan said although it will remain the property of the church, this will be a good time for the public to see the furniture that was made by Reverend Bavin in the early 1900s when he came to Fiji.
Reverend Bhagwan said the church executives are discussing where the furniture will be stored permanently.
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama handed over the furniture to the Methodist Church after the family of the late missionary told Fiji’s High Commissioner in London Solo Mara that they still have some of the belongings which Reverend Bavin took with him when he left Fiji.
Reverend Bavin was one of the few Methodist missionaries who established the technical training school in Davuilevu in the 1900s.
