2018 Miss Ba Riverside Crown 24-year-old Fulori Waibuta

It has been a tough journey for 24-year-old Fulori Waibuta, having to juggle both an internship at the Ba Mission Hospital and the 2018 Miss Ba Riverside Crown which she has now won.

Speaking to Fijivillage, Waibuta says she was not expecting the win as she had only been focusing on using this platform to advocate on plastic pollution.

The 24-year-old who hails from Burebasaga in Rewa, is today in church with her family members as part of the celebrations.

Miss Ba Riverside says the carnival was a platform where she could create awareness and tell the people of Ba about the impact plastic pollution has on our environment.

Waibuta who is a medical student now joins Miss Lautoka, Seini Vukivuki, Miss Suva, Jessica Fong, Miss Nadi, Kirisitiana Uluwai, Miss Nausori, Natasha Lal, Miss Nasinu, Esther Vateitei and Miss Labasa, Naima Shazmeen as contestants who will be vying for the Miss Fiji crown.

Miss Ba says she will begin her preparations tomorrow.

Waibuta says she will continue to use this platform to create awareness about plastic pollution.

Nearly two million single use plastic bags are distributed worldwide every minute and it is estimated plastic pollution will outweigh the number of fish in the sea by 2050.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Local Government, Parveen Bala has confirmed that the Miss Fiji Pageant will be held at the Valelevu Grounds in Nasinu next month.

The total amount collected in the Ba Riverside carnival has not been confirmed yet.
