The Ministry of Education will establish a Disaster Risk Management Unit next year as part of its Education in Emergency and School Safety Policy which was launched today.
Deputy Secretary for Primary, Secondary Education and Asset Monitoring Saimoni Waibuta said they will establish the unit as part of their plans to reduce both the risk and the impact of disasters in schools.
Waibuta said they have submitted the necessary costs involved in the setting up of a Disaster Risk Management Unit to the Ministry of Education and hope that it will be approved in next year’s National Budget.
