The Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment Ministry is working with the Police to investigate the incident where a local and a South African national died after allegedly inhaling toxic paint fumes, on a boat anchored in Lami Bay last month.
Minister Jioji Konrote told Fijivillage that Labour Inspectors will compile a report to avoid similar incidents in the future.
He said the ministry will also ensure that the next of kin of the Fijian man who lost his life receives compensation.
Meanwhile, Chief of Intelligence and Investigations ACP Henry Brown says the Fiji Police is working with all stakeholders to try and get clearance to board the vessel Betsy Ross so that further investigations can be conducted.
Officers are still not allowed on board due to safety reasons however all efforts are being made in partnership with the relevant parties from both Government and the private sector to clear the vessel of toxic material that could prove harmful for investigators.
