The Ministry of the Itaukei Affairs has terminated contracts of three of it’s Provincial Council Treasurers for unethical practices.

This has been confirmed to Fijivillage by the Itaukei Affairs Permanent Secretary, Naipote Katonitabua at the Provincial Treasurers Workshop.

Katonitabua says that they do not endorse abuse of office and whoever is found doing this will be terminated.

He says the Ministry of Itaukei Affairs 2018-2019 budget allocation this year has been increased and this is a challenge for the treasurers as they will be handling more money.

Katonitabua says that this workshop is timely as they are working on a more secure and transparent system.

Katonitabua also shared with the treasurers that the increase in their budget allocation is attributed to the increase in operating grants due to the Job Evaluation Exercise for the Itaukei Affairs Board and Provincial Councils.

The Ministry of Itaukei Affairs is allocated $15.8 million in the 2018-2019 National Budget.
