The Ministry of i‑Taukei Affairs has reviewed it's Memorandum Of Understanding with Westpac Banking Corporation which was signed in 2016 for Westpac to provide financial services for villages in the 14 provinces under the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs.
Permanent Secretary of the i‑Taukei Affairs, Naipote Katonitabua thanked the Westpac team for their financial journey with them.
The service provided includes the awareness and training of financial literacy services and upskilling household’s financial opportunities that are available.
Westpac General Manager Brett Hooker says that the Financial Literacy Programs have been provided not only in urban areas but also in rural and maritime zones.
Hookers says that most of those in rural communities through the programme have managed to open their bank accounts.
He adds that they have found how easy it is regarding their banking needs when they travel to the urban areas that is accessing their money from an ATM or swipe their card at Supermarkets.
Hooker says that Bank the un-banked ,empowering through education and making women count will continue to be a priority for Westpac as they made mid-term review of the MOU.
