Over 192 positions for Mataqali heads in the province of Naitasiri are still vacant with only 246 occupied to date.
This was highlighted by Deputy Permanent Secretary for iTaukei Affairs, Saimoni Waibuta who says the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs is very concerned about the matter and is trying to address it not only for Naitasiri but for other provinces in the country.
Waibuta says that many leadership positions within the iTaukei Leadership hierarchy continue to remain vacant for many years and is mainly due to conflicting views between iTaukei people.
While speaking at the Naitasiri Provincial Council meeting, Waibuta says the vacant positions is a contributing factor to the many threatening issues and crimes committed by the iTaukei people.
He says this includes the increasing cases of theft, assault, rape and increasing cases of women and children being sexually assaulted and abused.
Waibuta stressed that the Ministry aims to promote a transform iTaukei Family for a better Fiji adding that the need to fill the vacant positions in the iTaukei leadership hierarchy will play a huge role in addressing issues faced by the iTaukei people.
