Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Mereseini Vuniwaqa has received a $40,000 cheque from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Fiji to assist the Ministry with the procurement of mobility aid devices.

This was the result of a prior meeting that the Embassy had with the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, with discussions around the five core groups of disadvantaged Fijians that the Ministry looks after and the challenges they generally face.

One major area that the two parties found that needed urgent attention was the scarce accessibility of mobility aid to cater for the needs of elderly persons and persons living with disabilities.

The $40,000 donation is specifically for the Ministry to obtain adequate mobility resources to assist people.

Last year the Embassy had also donated a laptop and a desktop computer to the Mahaffy Girls Home and some equipment for the Senior Citizens Home as well.
