There is a lack of success with income generating projects that the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation has funded for women’s groups.
Minister Rosy Akbar made this comment today while addressing various women’s groups.
Akbar says they are now looking at partnering with existing vocational institutions that provide vocational training to marginalized women from disadvantaged backgrounds.
She says they have provided $100,000 to the Fiji Muslim Women’s Vocational Centre at Makoi which will provide training in sewing, baking and cooking to women from poor backgrounds.
The Minister highlighted that the courses will run from one to three months depending on the skills to ensure that upon graduation, the women can be employed or they can set up their own businesses and earn a decent income.
