Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development continues to work with WAF in water carting exercise in rural and maritime areas

The Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development, National Disaster Management through the National Disaster Management Office continues to work with the Water Authority of Fiji in the water carting exercise around the rural and maritime areas.

The Ministry says that after the first two weeks of operation, the water carting exercise for the Lomaiviti group has been completed.

They say the team onboard the MLC Sigavou has delivered 39,000 liters of water in Makogai, 28,166 liters in Batiki, and 6,795 liters for Moturiki in this initial phase of the Eastern Division Immediate Response Plan.

In adds that the carting of water for Northen Lau commenced last Thursday with the focus on Avea Cikobia and Adi Maopa Secondary School.

The NDMO has also received requests from Southern Lau including Kabara, Oneata, Ogea and Totoya for water carting where the delivery will be scheduled once verification has been completed by the relevant agencies on the ground.

Meanwhile a total of 1, 267,000 liters of water have been delivered to the Yasawa’s including Malolo Island, Waya Lailai Island, Wayalevu, Yasawa, Vatulele, Viwa and Nacula Island.

The NDMO continues to monitor the water carting schedule and is on standby.
