The Ministry of Health is still working to identify areas where the General Practitioners Program will begin and the Doctors who will be used to carry out the services in these areas.
The Minister for Health, Dr. Ifereimi Waqainabete has confirmed that these are some of the reasons why the General Practitioners Program did not begin as it was scheduled to on the 1st of January this year.
Waqainabete earlier highlighted that the idea of the General Practitioners Program is to ensure that people have a dedicated GP that can look after them.
The General Practitioners Program that was scheduled to begin on the 1st of January 2019 is a program that would have Doctors expand their services into disadvantaged communities with the government footing the costs for the patients that will be seen by them.
The Health Minister says that the GP Program is going through due diligence as there are things that need to be set out by the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Health before the program is finally rolled out.
