Ministry of Health is conducting investigations to ascertain the total number of people who have eaten the suspected poisonous fish which has killed four men in the village of Somosomo in Gau Island.
The four failed to respond to treatment by medical personnel based at Qarani Health Centre on Tuesday afternoon.
Somosomo village Nurse, Miriama Ledua told Fijivillage that about 15 people ate the fish on Tuesday.
Ledua who took the four to the Qarani Health Center says this is an unusual case as they had eaten the Daniva fish which is not normally poisonous.
Meanwhile, the Ministry says that the doctor stationed on the island had accompanied a seriously ill child to Suva for specialist medical assistance.
They add that they have today visited Somosomo village and are conducting investigations.
The Ministry says that any patient who appears to be at risk will be carefully monitored and treated as required.
The priority for the Ministry at this stage is to ensure that all those affected are treated appropriately.
