The Ministry of Fisheries new website will not only bring services closer to the people but has gone a step further to make it more interactive for its users in the rural and maritime areas.
These were the words of the Ministry of Fisheries acting Permanent Secretary Naipote Katonitabua while officially launching the new website at Holiday Inn.
Katonitabua says that a website is like an electronic brochure and a source of information that is accessed by the public 24 hours a day adding that it is where the Fisheries Ministry can tell the public about what they do and what we can offer.
The users of the website will be able to access information and forms as well as call headquarters in Suva should the need arise with the use of the website.
The Fisheries Ministry’s staff in the nine stations situated in the four divisions will also be on hand to help people in rural areas access this service.
Katonitabua says the power of information technology for fisheries lies in its ability to provide a cost‑effective platform for reaching out to the people and this has been realised by the unveiling of the new website.
The website was the vision of the late former Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Fisheries, Sanaila Naqali and to mark the event, his widow, Emali Naqali was invited as a special guest.
