The Ministry of Education has today stressed that it is not providing stationery and uniform assistance to children from the Ministry Headquarters for the new school year.
The Ministry says the assistance will be given by the NGOs and they can only assist parents with the names of the NGOs and the donors.
The donors that can provide stationery and uniform assistance are Save the Children Fund, Read to Lead, UNICEF, Satya Sai Organisation, UNESCO, Homes of Hope, ATH Vodafone and JICA.
It was earlier confirmed to Fijivillage that students whose parents are facing genuine financial challenges are allowed to go to school in any other appropriate dress code apart from their school uniform.
Speaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of Education last week, Deputy Secretary Timoci Bure said they will allow this for three weeks.
Bure says parents can contact the Ministry of Education if they need assistance and the Ministry will direct them to organisations that can offer assistance.
