The Ministry for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation is looking at taking social welfare services to the doorsteps of people living in the rural areas.
During her first official visit to Nadakuni village in Nawaidina, Naitasiri, this morning Rosy Sofia Akbar reiterated government’s commitment toward rural development.
She also assured the villagers that they will ensure those social welfare applications which have been pending are processed swiftly and that the benefits are filtered down to rural communities.
Meanwhile, Nadakuni village headman Timoci Nabulivou said there are 380 people in Nadakuni and the main source of living is through subsistence farming.
He said that through the Bainimarama government’s assistance, all the 80 houses have access to electricity and there is also a women’s centre which is generating income for the women.
