The residents of Savusavu Town have been assured by Minister for Waterways Doctor Mahendra Reddy that the Ministry is willing to provide additional funds to prevent certain areas of their town from being flooded.
This comes after residents raised concerns on this issue with Doctor Reddy during public consultations held in Savusavu.
Savusavu Town is located at the foothills of a mountain and during heavy rainfall, certain areas of the town become flooded.
Dr Reddy says the Ministry needs to allocate funds to de-silt , clean and provide outlets to the major drain system that directs the flow of rain water down the mountain.
He says the drains haven’t been maintained for a long time.
