There has been an increase in the number of mentally challenged beggars.
Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar said the Ministry is exploring ways to assist the mentally challenged beggars on our streets.
She added they are in the process of liaising with Ministry of Health to identify solutions to deal with this issue.
Akbar is appeal to people to show more compassion and care towards their family members who are mentally challenged.
She also highlighted that they visited few such cases where the mentally challenged were receiving medical treatment and there was no trace of their families.
She said the Ministry is working with the Ministry of Health, Fiji Police and the Ministry of Local Government to address the issue.
