The Ministry of Health is concerned with the increasing cancer rate in Fiji as approximately 161 new cases of cervical cancer are recorded every year.
The Ministry has joined hands with NGOs to advocate for better primary and preventative cancer services.
Part of that program is to establish outreach programs to provide screening programs and early detection.
Minister Jone Usamate said females have a high incidence rate, almost three times more than males which include cervical, breast and uterus cancer.
He added that they have introduced the Human Papilloma Virus vaccine to address the high incidence of cervical cancer.
