Proper leases will be given to tenants, once the development on that land is completed and the survey plan has been approved by the Ministry.
This has been stated by the Minister of Lands and Mineral Resources, Ashneel Sudhakar while answering the question posed by Virendra Prakash in Parliament about the current status of the Regulation of Informal Settlements and when will these lessees be issued proper leases.
Sudhakar says that since its inception in 2015, the Ministry to date has surveyed a total of 55 informal settlements out of the 64 land lots which was identified.
He adds that 21 of these informal settlements are in the Central Division, 17 are in the Western Division and 17 are in the Northern Division.
Sudhakar revealed that the Ministry has issued a total of 515 approved notices.
He adds from these 515 families, 89 families are from the Central Division in 6 informal settlements, 293 families are from the Western Division in 8 informal settlements while 133 families are from the Northern Division in 8 informal settlements.
Leader of Opposition Sitiveni Rabuka commended the Minister and the current government on their continuous work in regularizing the irregular settlement.
