The Education Minister said he is eager to meet with the ex-scholars of Adi Cakobau School, Ratu Kadavulevu School and Queen Victoria School after reports emerged that they are planning to convince the Minister to have these schools privatized.
Education Minister Dr. Mahendra Reddy said the Ministry considers them as important stakeholders therefore the Ministry is looking forward to discussing the concerns with them.
Dr. Reddy said most importantly the Ministry would like to clearly explain to them the intent of the announcement the Ministry made about the new boarding policy early this month.
The old scholars from ACS, QVS and RKS said they are planning to convince the Minister to privatize the schools.
They also plan to ask the Minister why the decision was made and they would also like to inform the Minister why they are against the new boarding school policy.
While making the announcement Dr. Reddy stressed that students that have access to secondary schools in their areas will no longer be admitted in government boarding schools.
He said the students already in these schools will not be affected and will be allowed to complete their education up to Year 13.
However new students going into ACS , QVS, Natabua High School, RKS and Labasa College from next year will come from rural and maritime areas where no secondary schools are available for these students.
